ID Released For Man Killed Crossing Busy Long Island Roadway

The 73-year-old man who was hit and killed while crossing a busy Long Island roadway early on New Year's Eve Day has been identified.

According to the Nassau County Police Homicide Squad, the fatal accident took place around 6:55 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 31, in Woodmere.

According to detectives, a 2019 Infinity SUV driven by a 36-year-old woman was traveling southbound on Peninsula Boulevard when the vehicle struck the man near the intersection of Edward Avenue. 

The man, now ID'd as Stewart Hecht, 73, of Woodmere, suffered severe injuries and was transported to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment. 

Hecht was later pronounced dead by hospital emergency medical staff at 7:41 a.m., Nassau County Police said.

The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and the investigation is ongoing.
